Free online scientific calculator available

I have included a free, online scientific calculator on the main class site (www.physicsmedic.org).

This is a great resource if you don't have your own calculator but can get to a computer.

Protocol for Solving Physics Problems

The protocol is an appraoch to problem solving for Physics.
10 steps
1. read the problem
2. create a meanful diagram
3. determine the variables
4. assign values to variables (what you are given and what you know, and what you are looking for)
6. choose equation
7. do your algebra (to solve for the variable you are looking for)
8. substitue values into equation
9. complete the math
10 check sig figs and box or circle answer

Schedule for next week

Monday 11/22
Chapter 7 lecture - Linear Momentum

(you should read through the chapter this weekend. In fact, your homework for this weekend is to read Chapter 7. Make sure you look at how the problems are solved too.)

The slides for Chapter 7 are already posted here: https://sites.google.com/site/dandradeedusite/Home/ap-physics-class-files

Wednesday 11/25 1/2 day

0753-0905 Period 2
0910 - 1010 Period 3
1015 - 1045 Lunch
1050 - 1227 We will go over the homework and start a LAB on Momentum

You will have a QUIZ ON CHP 6 and 7 on TUESDAY, 11/30
Review the chapters and your homework.

Thursday, November 18th

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Today you will be using interactive multimedia software to further explore Work and Energy. I will also give you some time at the end of class to work on your Project. You should create a schedule, make assignments to teams, and come up with the plan on how you will proceed with the online physics resource project.

Instructions for today's assignment:

Log in and go to Multimedia Science School.

Select the following:

Work and Energy
Energy Changes

As you go through the lesson, make sure you pay attention to each part of the lesson and take notes. Write down any questions (and answers) and information from each page in your notes that you think is helpful for future reference. Do not write everything down though. This is for you for future study and reference.

Try each simulation multiple times with different variables so you can truly see what is happening.

As you work through the lessons, perform the calculations for yourselves before selecting the final row in the ‘Calculate work’ table, to check your answers.

Think before you post online

Think before you post anything on Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, a blog, or even email or text message. That information could end up being seen by anyone.

Today, Friday, November 12th

We did Chapter 6. The slides are available here: https://sites.google.com/site/dandradeedusite/Home/ap-physics-class-files
(there are 3 solved examples on there).

Homework is Chapter 6, Problems: 9, 23, 31, 33, 39, 43, 51, 63.  We will go over the problems on Tuesday and then do a computer assignment to explore the concepts of Work, Power, and Energy some more.

Schedule Update

Today, Monday, November 8th we went over the homework from Chapter 5 (problems  )

Hint for reviewing for quiz - look over your notes, skim chapter 5 and try some of the homework problems again.

We also went over #73 today - you can find the solution for this problem, and the solutions to the homework, here:

Wednesday is your quiz on Chapter 5.

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Reminder: Tomorrow (Thursday) we will be finishing the circular motion lab and then you will have a short quiz on Chapter 5. You will have some time to ask questions, so come prepared.

See you then.
